Scalp Treatment Benefits: Is It Worth Adding On?
By Bella Garcia · · 4 min read
Most of us put a lot of effort into the hair we can see and almost none into the skin it grows from. A scalp treatment is the fix for that. Below is what actually happens during ours, the benefits clients notice most, and an honest take on when it's worth adding on.
What happens during our scalp treatment
Our scalp treatment is a customized add-on, about 30 mins, and it can be added to any service on the menu. It runs in this order:
- Scalp analysis. We look at your scalp first: oily, dry, flaky, tight, coated with product. That decides what comes next.
- Pre-wash conditioning. This softens buildup and protects your lengths before cleansing.
- Cleanse. A focused wash at the roots, not just a quick pass.
- Massage. Slow, firm pressure across the scalp. This is the part most people remember.
- Steam. Warm steam helps the scalp and hair take in what goes on next.
- Custom mask. Chosen based on what we found in the analysis and what your hair needs.
Why your scalp needs attention
Your scalp is skin. It collects oil, sweat, dead skin, and leftover product the same way your face does. Dry shampoo is the biggest culprit we see. It's great for stretching a style, but it sits at the roots until it's properly washed out.
When that buildup hangs around, you might notice itching, small flakes, greasy roots by day two, or hair that won't hold volume no matter how it's dried. A clean, balanced scalp gives every style a better base.
The benefits clients notice most
Every scalp is different, so results vary. These are the ones we hear about most:
- A deeper clean. The pre-wash and focused cleanse lift buildup a quick shampoo at home tends to miss.
- Less itch and flaking. Dry, tight scalps often feel calmer for days afterward.
- Lighter roots. Without residue, hair at the crown feels less heavy and looks less oily.
- Better lift. Roots that aren't weighed down hold volume from a blowdry longer.
- A little quiet time. The massage and steam are genuinely relaxing.
To be clear: this is a care and comfort service, not a medical treatment. Sudden shedding, painful or bleeding patches, or a rash that won't go away are reasons to see a dermatologist first.
Who gets the most out of it
- Heavy dry shampoo or styling product users
- People who work out daily or sweat a lot, especially in warm months
- Anyone with oily roots and dry ends at the same time
- Scalps that get tight and flaky when the heater runs in winter
- Clients stretching time between washes after a blowdry or silk press
Hot weather makes sweat and buildup a bigger factor. Our guide to hair care in hot, sunny months has more on that season.
Is it worth adding on?
The scalp treatment is $35 as an add-on. A quick way to decide:
Probably worth it if
- Your scalp often feels itchy, tight, or coated
- Your roots get greasy fast and your blowdries fall flat early
- You have an event coming up and want your style to start from the cleanest possible base
- You want a slower, more relaxing appointment
You might skip it this time if
- Your scalp feels comfortable and balanced right now
- You had one recently and your home routine is working
- You have open irritation or a sore spot. Check with a doctor first.
If you already come in for regular blowouts, the TIER 2 blowdry membership includes 1 scalp treatment add-on each month along with 4 blowouts in any style, and 1 unused blowout rolls over. Details are in our membership tier breakdown.
Good pairings
Since it can go with any service, pick based on what you're already booking:
- Wash + blowdry. A fresh scalp, then a smooth finish that tends to hold longer.
- Haircut + blowdry. A full root-to-ends reset in one visit.
- Silk press. A clean, calm scalp can make it more comfortable to stretch your press.
- Color. Some clients add it to a root touch-up or gloss visit for extra conditioning time.
Our complete service list has every option in one place.

Keeping your scalp healthy at home
- Shampoo with your fingertips, not your nails, and spend most of your time on the scalp.
- Rinse longer than feels necessary so conditioner and product don't linger at the roots.
- Use dry shampoo for a day or two, then wash it out properly.
- Clean your brushes every couple of weeks so they don't redeposit oil.
- Switch pillowcases often if you sleep with product in your hair.
FAQ
How often should I get a scalp treatment?
Many people like one about once a month, especially if they use a lot of product or get regular blowouts. Others only add one when their scalp feels out of balance, like after a run of dry shampoo days.
Can a scalp treatment help with flakes?
Many clients notice less flaking afterward, since the cleanse and mask clear away buildup and dry skin. Flaking that's persistent or severe can have other causes, so see a dermatologist if it doesn't improve.
Can I add a scalp treatment to any appointment?
Yes. It can be added to any service on our menu, from a blowdry or haircut to a color appointment.
